Fit External Vent Grill to Pipe Same Size

Hi,
I have an external vent grill from my oven extractor fan that has broken off.
I have bought a new grill vent which comes with a 6 inch diameter attachment.
The problem is the pipe itself in the external wall is 6 inch diameter (rigid plastic not flex venting).
What is the best option here?
The strange thing is that the last vent grill must've been the tiniest bit bigger than 6 inch diameter to have fitted over the 6 inch pipe - yet anything I can find it 6 inches exactly? Possibly it all came together as a kit?

- Silicone the two parts together?
Buy a 6inch to 6inch connector (grill will protrude a few inches if I do this)
