Shower Room Extract fan Discharge Duct

Hello - first post for a while - thanks for any advice.
Have a shower room extract fan installed horizontal thro ceiling with flexi ducting running about 5m in insulated loft to grille in eaves. Shower used 4 times/day and we’re in Scotland ie cold loft! Have replaced fan twice before as water has run back down duct and shorted fan electrics. Know that water is coming down again and have cleaned and dried it out. Am investigating alternative, nearer grille position and/or insulated ducting. But what is best option in fitting ducting - should it run vertically upwards first from fan (how high?) before bending to drop/run to grille (this is how it is just now with duct bend taped to top of truss) or should it bend almost immediately from fan and run with small drop to grille (this was how it was previously and a pool of water collected in almost horizontal duct and overflowed down thro fan). Wondering what is best approach to duct pls? Thanks.
