Venting Kitchen Cooker Hood Extractor

Currently my kitchen cooker hood extractor fan exits our property through a stainless steel bull nose vent & grill. Am I able to replace this with a 90 degree bend out of the property followed by a couple of foot of pipe terminating with a cowl.
I am looking for a way to possibly direct the steam and smell up and away from the property. The kitchen is part of a one story extension built on the back of our house.
I am open to other suggestions if there is a better way of achieving the same result. Thanks
