Indirect Fortic / Combination Cylinder - OK to use as immersion only?

Hi all,

We have an annexe in our garden and have a brand new *Indirect* Fortic / Combination Cylinder, e.g. with coil and one immersion boss.

This cylinder is in a tall loft, the sole item it will feed is a shower below - this will realistically only be used about twice a year - this is not an airBnB bodge. The sink below has a 2kw instant heater - sadly the supply isn't man enough for an electric shower (I am a qualified electrician by the way). I know the flow won't be brilliant, but the loft is stupidly tall so the cylinder is on a stage & so has some head height. The mixer is ok for low pressure, as is the shower head.

Basically - is it ok to simply leave the heating coil blanked off and not use it, and run the fortic on electric only? Seems a shame to bin off a brand new fortic just to get one full price but with two less holes - unless this is an issue.

cheers :)

Hi datadiffusion
Using your fortis as a direct cylinder will be ok - no real need to blank off the heating coil.

Good to know thanks, when we moved in there was a copper pipe from the combi in the main house - literally shallow buried without any protection in the patio!! The cold however is a blue polypipe and although probably not quite the right depth has never frozen, including during that beast from the east thing. Am finally getting the annexe done after many years working on the house, it's not fancy but will be a useful space hopefully... Cheers!
