Hi everyone. I've had an old gas fire in my living room disconnected and removed, revealing a one foot square opening in the wall and a narrow vent type of flue leading upwards from that.

I won't need this opening/flue any more as I am getting out of fossil fuel and will be replacing the gas fire with a stove-lookalike, electric, fan heater thing. I have a cut-to-size piece of 1cm aquapanel ready to mortar into the front of the square hole... but should I allow some ventilation still to pass through... perhaps by some drilled holes in the panel?

Any thoughts very welcome.

It may need capping off at top, I use mine to put the AC pipe into so no windows open if I want to run it before returning home.

I lived through the winter of discontent, and just some parts of Wales have been without electric power for 5 days, I simply would not buy a house where no electric means no heat.

I have an open hearth, I can burn wood, and have wood I can burn, no intention of burning wood, but it is there just in case.
