Most powerful bathroom extractor option based on building limitations

Hi guys. Looking to solve a pretty bad ventilation situation in my bathroom. Property is a first floor flat in converted house so no access to loft, no window, outside wall etc. There is a useless extractor already in place but does absolutely nothing, so looking to go as powerful as I can based on what I presume are fairly limited options? For example, I have heard good things about an ‘in-line’ solution but not sure this is even an option with a 6-8” gap between my ceiling and flat above? Thanks for any advice!

I had a problem in one house of three, and I considered why, I realised it was having a shower screen with gap both above and below.

The shower with no gap at bottom was OK and shower with no screen a wet room also was OK.

The shower screen with gap top and bottom the chimney effect was moving the mosture into whole room.
