Drummin noise from Airing Cupboard pump

by sim6827 » Thu Dec 20, 2007 7:57 am

Morning All,

I have an annoying "drumming" type noise eminating from the hot water pump located in my airing cupboard.

It doesn't happen everytime the boiler is on and only starts after the water has been heating for about 30 mins.

The system is almost 10 years old.

What would you suggest, do I need to get my pump replaced, how long due they usually last, any ideas on cost?

Thanks in advance.

Simon.

It coule be the pump, the bearings could be worn, you'd know best as you should be able to trace the noise and determine whether it is the pump, when it starts making the noise again, place a screwdriver on the pump and put your ear on the screwdriver handle - this should tell you if it is the pump.

Changing the pump can be done by a competent DIYer, if your unsure - don't attempt it.

About £70 - £80 for a new pump. not including fitting
