what is this leaking?

hi, does anybody know what this is that is leaking? its one of the pipes from the boiler going up to (i presume) the heated water tank. i know next to nothing about central heating so any help appreciated thanks[/url]

Copper oxide cupric and cuprous are blue and green and steel oxides are yellow and black (mixture of both oxides rust colour) the colour you see is a mixture of all these in water. But I hope a plumber will look at that picture as that to my untrained eye looks like a pressure relief valve which I would have expected to be fitted over a ton dish (Funnel) to catch the water and lead it off to a safe place?

Might be a gate valve body which has had the wheel and valve spindle cut off or sheered off.
Or as "ericmark" says, some type of in-line "PRV".
Where is this fitting located?
Hot or cold pipe?
Lots more info would be helpful!
Can you upload other pics (particularly of end sticking into wood cut out)

Ok, it is a old skool PRV.
1/2" Female Iron, spring loaded pressure point. There is a little spring and plate on the inside of that fitting, and if the pressure gets to much, its moves the spring and allows the water to flow out.
You need to replace it.
1/2" F.I Pressure release Point.
