Screed on top of underfloor heating.

by leefire » Thu Aug 27, 2009 2:15 pm

Hi wondered if you all could help me. My dad is having underfloor heating put in the bunglow he just bought. It has concrete floors throughout. His has 50mm of instulation with 15mm ufh pipes on top total of 65mm. The problem is he only has 50mm left to screed. Ive been looking and alot of people are saying traditional sand and cement 3 to 1 mix is ideal. Would 50mm be to thin and would it crack? Also how hard is it to screed a room approx 13ftx10ft? All comments would be gratefully appreciated. Cheers

The problem with UFH is that a thin slab can crack and curl up with the heat.
The best thing is to lay some steel re inforcing and tie the pipe to it before encasing in concrete.
