Hi,

I am looking for a pretty cheap (under £600) option to get the cars off the road.

Right, I am creating a driveway that already slopes towards the house, the area is 36m2, I will be digging down to a depth of 10", and will be putting in 10 tons of type 1.
I will be laying 2 pairs of flagstones for the tyres of the cars to run on and then surround it with 20mm cotswold chippings.

Ok so what i need to know is the flagstones will be laid edge to edge going down a slope, how do i secure these flagstones to the type1 so they do not move when the cars drive over them??

if you are asking what to lay your flags on then you can either use a sand and cement screed, which is whackered then screeded or you can use sand and cement wet mix, putting down a spot in each corner and one in the middle then knocked down with a rubber maul, each method is low cost, on each method you want a maximum bed of 25mm

Ok, thats the information i was after..

So basically i would cement on top of the type 1 and they lay the flagstone on that :) ..

Would they then be soild enough to drive on considering it will be on slope?

Bed the slabs on a mortar mix and you'll get two problems, the slabs may break when you drive over them and they may lift if you drive over the edge.

the wet mix method will be easier for u if u dont have building expirience, the spots will spread out when the slab is knocked down and if you make sure your beds are no bigger than 25mm they will be fine

Hi

lay on 150mm well consoladated hardcore (type 1), 75-100mm of wetish
concrete mix solid bed, lay with a slight gap to allow for any movement because chipping on the edges will occur (sand joints).Also you need to lay off an edging (or similar) well concreted in to stop your flags slipping down the slope.
