Building up floor level of concrete pad

by anakin » Tue Jul 17, 2007 2:48 pm

I have a old concrete panel garage that was built on a concrete pad. It wasn't particulary well installed and water seeps into into it through the door and the sides. I was considering building up the level of the concrete floor ending with a slope out of the front as part of the problem is the slope of the drive.

What mix should I use? (would a premixed brand be alright as I would probably be doing this on my own)?

What is the minmum thickness of extra concrete (I was hoping between 1 and 2 inches) and do I need to treat the existing surface (its pretty dirty)?

Would I need to leave expansion gaps around the edges?

Or is this a bad idea :(

The existing floor seems to be sound, I have not noticed any cracks.

Sorry, lots of questions

Thanks in advance

Neil
