DIY Timber Lean to With Poly Roof and Concrete Pads for Posts

Hi All,
I'm planning on building a small lean to onto the back of the house with a poly roof to cover the decking.
Nothing too taxing but I'm using 100 x100 posts up to the frame (the posts will sit just off the deck in the ground) and don't really want to bury them into the ground as when the do eventually rot I want a easy change over so I'm thinking of making some small concrete pads and using bolt down feet that the posts sit in.
My question is about these pads, could I dig out the soil and just use concrete blocks or dig out and pour concrete if so what depth should I dig?
