Enlarging a concrete base for above-ground swimming pool

We bought an above ground wooden pool off eBay, but having collected it, it's a fair bit larger than the description given by the seller. We had already had the concrete base installed for it and the pool is just a bit bigger than the base, so we need to enlarge it by about a foot / 18 inches. My husband isn't used to dealing with concrete and has been putting off doing anything about it because he's worried he'll mess it up. Too late for this season now but what's the best way to approach this? If he puts shuttering up and just adds concrete, will it adhere to the existing concrete?

Hi sophistory
The piece of extended concrete needs to be cast on an identical base to the one you have already. The new will not join to the old but the pool will probably have a bevel all round it so the loading is on the main area of the pool rather than the edges.
