How to use a rotary hammer to drill in concrete

Hi guys,

I'm a novice with this tool. I've bought a Makita HR2470 (24 mm drill on concrete maximum) and I need to drill in concrete to setup anchors.

I'm using a Bosch 7x 20 mm carbide bit. I'd head that I need to gently push the drill and not put a lot of pressure when drilling so I started gently and I feel it's drilling but very slowly. If I push a little bit harder I start hearing a hammering sound and feeling the vibration of the tool.

Is this normal? should I hear this hammering sound and feel the vibration of the tool? is this the way the tool is designed to operate?

Thanks

Hi claudioc,
Yes you will have to push the drill into the surface and you will feel the hammer action. Trial and error will be needed to determine the best combination of speed and pressure.
