PVC DPM around fireplace

Hello,
I'm considering lifting the 'top layer of self leveled flooring' in my living room. It appears to me that the damp proof of the floor is made from a tar impregnated sheet. This appears to be starting to breakdown.
If I replace with a plastic membrane and a new 'top layer' (sorry I dont know what this is called). in the area directly infront of the fireplace, which will have a multifuel stove, should the dpm ne there? or will it be at risk from the heat from the fire??
Many thanks,
