fixing themal/insulation boards to plastered wall

Hi. I have a detached house built approx 1880; no cavity wall/DPC etc. There's a few damp patches on the west facing external wall, both downstairs and upstairs. We have the older style DG with aluminium frames and there's a fair bit of condensation all around the house.

We've been advised to fit thermal boards to solve the problems. Can anybody please advise whether i can fix the boards straight onto the current plaster (now exposed and looking dry) or will i need to fix using a baton? If the latter, what's the chances of the wooden baton/s rotting?

Lastly, has anybody used Klima Thermal boards? If so how were/are they?

Many thanks.
