we have noticed a musty earth smell which we can smell through one of our rooms floorboards which had new boards replaced 5yrs ago which in turn has underlay and carpet...its a bungalow and we know the gap below the floor is not that deep there are sufficient airbricks in place but when you get close up to say the skirting boards which we were recently painting we could smell it...there is no sign of dampness on walls and we will at some stage be contemplating removing carpet is there any membranes or similiar that can be put down under the underlay

lucadobe,
It's normal for the sub-floor area to smell dank but have you had your cavities filled and have you checked all airbricks are clear to the sub-floor void.
