I HAVE A 1930'S SEMI WITH A CELLAR THE OLD STAIRS DOWN INTO THE CELLAR ARE AGAINST THE EXTERNAL CELLAR WALL AND AS A RESULT THE GENERAL DAMP HAS CAUSED THE WOOD TO ROT.

ARE THESE STAIRS GENERALLY PART OF THE STRUCTURE SUPPORTING THE FLOOR?

CAN I REPLACE THEM WITH INDIVIDUAL TREADS SUPPORTED ON METAL FIXINGS (JOIST HANGERS?) ATTACHED TO THE BRICK WALLS ON EACH SIDE?

ANY THOUGHTS VERY WELCOME

Look at the direction of the joists in the cellar, look at the way the stairs lean/join the floor upstairs.
