brown fungus behind tiled wall in bathroom

I have found brown fungal type stuff growing behind tiles on an outside wall. I have removed the tiles and fungus what should I do next? do i need to treat it..........battons very wet, have replaced these and plasterboard but before i do this how do i treat the walls?
