We have just purchased an ex-council terraced house circa 1960. Unfortunately we find that all the internal walls are poured concrete. Having removed many layers of wallpaper and anaglypta we are now left with bare grey concrete, patched with plaster. How do we go about papering this as we are unable to plaster them, due to cost? I am prepared to use 1700 guage lining paper and paint over if possible - any tips? Should we size first?

Are you SURE it's concrete and not grey plaster?

Yes I'm afraid the walls are concrete. Evidentally the terraces were built in blocks, the foundations laid and shuttering erected, then the concrete was poured over reinforcing bars. The walls then settled and the cracks have been filled with pink plaster. You can drill into them quite easily, but there is a danger of hitting a reinforcing bar and the drill goes way off line!
Must say it is a huge learning curve, but am remaining positive about the outcome.
