hi does anyone have any hints on how i can paint over existing silk emulsion, i have a large room where i have removed the wall paper and its backing and left the exposed wall with partly painted walls and some down to the plaster, i have tried to paint over the walls with some new matt paint and it is blistering or leaving a very rough finish. the walls were very smooth prior to the new paint going on.

hope someone can help

many thanks

Matt over silk NEVER works. It ALWAYS cracks.

Either line it first with 800 grade lining paper or use an oil/spirit based white undercoat first.

Then paint over.

it's also possible (and quite likely) that there is some residual wallpaper paste from the paper that you removed on the paint. a bit of a job to get every trace of it off and it won't take a paint. lining paper is the best solution.
