ceiling tile adhesive

Has anyone found the solution to this problem? Once the tiles are removed I am left with very thick glue patches all over the ceiling. In the last house we were able to employ a plasterer to skim it over but in this case I am looking for an alternative solution. Any solutions welcomed.
