Any ideas how I can remove plaster coving?

Use a very wide scraper and slide (some force will be required) it into the joint between wall and coving. When you have broken the seal all the way along try and lever it out towards the room and hope the adhesive comes away from the ceiling without causing too much damage. This however is not usually the case !!
