Hi I am just about to decorate my hall and landings. There are lots of Formed MDF skirtings to be re-glossed. To sand these down will take me forever and over sanding also means the paint soaks through and causes patches. Is there any other way of preparing these ready for glossing that will save me a bit of time.
I also have 2 bannisters to gloss whch are just wood, again is there anything rather than sanding which will save me time?

Could I possibly just clean them down and paint over without sanding?

Thanks :?: :?

A good job is about preparation and there are hundreds of shortcuts to rubbish. Sanding is vital to give a key to paint. Oversanding is not possible because a proper primer will take care of paint soaking in. Its not unknown for decorators to give timber 3 coats of primer then two undercoats before a gloss coat. Its all about the quality of work you want to end up with and if the jobs not prepared the finish will be rough.
