Peeling paint

This is puzzling me a bit! About a year ago I painted the coving and ceiling in the bathroom, something I've done several times over the years but for some reason in a couple of areas the new paint is peeling off!

I've done nothing different and it's not happening all over the ceiling, just in a couple of places.

My favourite theory is that maybe these areas were 'moist' but only because one of them is over the shower.

Any ideas? And how do I stop it happening again when I repaint it?

Thanks.

could be that the area was moist prior to painting, this would certainly cause peeling. could be that the substrate was dirty (did you wash it first?) could be that the paint has no resistance to moisture coming from the bathroom, could be that the previous layer of paint had become unsound. possibly the plaster has crystallised (though you'd normally see further evidence of this).

only solution is to strip away the peeling paint, give the area a light sanding and good clean then try again. ensure you are using a paint suitable for bathrooms.

there are many potential causes for this type of problem and unfortunately it's difficult to give an accurate diagnosis without sight of the problem.
