Wallpapering over embossed wallpaper?

Is it suitable to wallpaper over existing embossed wallpaper? And if so, what wallpaper should I use to ensure the pattern on the paper behind doesn't come through?
I plan to cover up the old patterned wallpaper with new, then paint the room.
