Hi I have used a wine red Matt paint in the kitchen dining room and on a wall in the bedroom. Everywhere is Ok but the bedroom has had a chalky residue appear through the wall. I have recently repainted using a different brand (Delux) in a similar colour thinking that would do the trick. However It's starting to show through again. The house is about 15 years old and its just odd that it is only on this one wall.

Can anybody offer any advice please?

This could be distemper, which is a levelling paint that they used to use in the 1950s. Modern paints don't adhere to this so the only way to get the paint to stick is to completely remove the distemper, with warm water and a lot of scrubbing. Distemper is very chalky and if you rub your hand on it you should see a chalky residue on your hand. The other thing it might be is that the wall is dirty or grimey a good sugar soaping should get rid of the dirt and grime.

There should be something on that wall that causes that effect. As Super chip advised you might be able to take it off by giving it a very good scrub
