Repainting Flaking Painted Exterior Tiles - How to Prepare for Repainting?

Hello,

I am looking to repaint some exterior tiles on the front of my house (they are in a bay area above the window). They are currently painted but the paint is very cracked and flaky. Does anyone know how I should prepare the surface before repainting? I have tried sanding, but the paint flakes a couple of millimetres thick, and don't come of evenly or easily. I wondered if some sort of paint stripper might be helpful, although I have no idea which sort.

Any thoughts would be helpful! Thanks.

Sorry about the late reply Meredith but it's holiday season!

The best thing to do is indeed to strip off the paint.Even sanding down willleave an uneven surface. The best stripper to use is a product from a company called Eco-Solutions and it a revolutionary solvent free stripper which actually even smells quite nice!

Here is a link to the stripper which is called Home Strip
