Advice on Hiding Caulk and Wallpaper Paste Needed

Hi, hoping someone could give me some advice please? My partner put white caulk on cream wallpaper then painted over the walls in a light/medium grey. This did not disguise the caulk and we have dirty looking walls which we don't know how to cover. He papered the chimney breast after painting and the walls at either side are streaked with wallpaper paste and stained.

Has anyone kindly got any advice for proceeding with this problem? Should we try painting over the streaks and living with the caulk marks or just re-paper and paint (as messy as that may be)?

Thanks, much appreciated.

Sack him!

Before painting you should use a primer. We like this one as it does a great job and will cover virtually anything: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/DIY-superst ... litre.html

You might be able to clean off the wall paper paste.
