Preparing Walls and Ceilings for Plasterers Coming at Weekend

I'm getting some plasterers in this weekend and am trying to prepare all my walls beforehand to save time and cost. How much artex do I need to remove from a ceiling? Some of it is really stubborn and won't come off with steaming or scraping. I also read that old artex can have asbestos in it, so I don't want to sand it.

I'm also going to put pva/water mix all over the walls and ceilings...do I just use a roller for that?

Thanks!

Hi TheDIYGirl,
It's probably too late for you now, but I have only just seen this post, so sorry!

In future, I would recommend using X-Tex to get rid of all Artex. Here's more information about how to use it:

https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/artex.htm

The Artex tends to get hard to remove when it has been painted over many times over the years. This means that you need to 'get through' the paint before you can deal with the Artex. We cover the paint and Artex in a thick layer of X-Tex and then cover is with plastic film over night - in the morning it generally comes off really easily.

You can get in online here:

Good luck with it!
