Hi,

I've just stripped the lining paper in our hallway as we intend to paint straight onto the plaster. In doing so, I've uncovered when a job has previously been done to move or block up a doorway.

At the top of the old door, there is an untidy join with the original plaster. I don't know much about decorating & plaster but my guess is that this is the plaster board that was then plastered over. What the best way to cut that back to be level with the rest of the wall? The old lining paper was hiding this but I want to make this as tidy as job as possible.

The damp patches you see are from the steaming, nothing else.

Any advice appreciated.

the wall in the picture looks as if its uneven, the best way is to build out the wall from the ceiling to the join. To do this you need some carlite bonding and plaster it straight, use a straight piece of timber to check it.
Once its set , p.v.a the wall and use thistle multi finish plaster to finish the wall.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up getting our plasterer in to do a proper job.

The walls are now dead straight and the plaster is nearly completely dried.
