Cracks and splits in dry lining joints

What is the best (and easiest hopefully) way to repair splits and cracks on the joints between sheets of dry lining ?
I live in a property about 20 years old, and quite a few of the walls have joints where this has happened. In some it is just a hairline crack that has appeared, but others are quite pronounced with the edges of the jointing tape clearly visible on both sides of the joint, and on some what appears to be a clear difference in level of the boards each side.
Thanks.
