Best Method for Bathroom Wall Preparation for Emulsion Paint

Hello,
I have stripped off the woodchip wallpaper what was in the bathroom. This has left behind a mixture of bare plaster, layers of old emulsion paint randomly left on the wall.
What I would like to know is how to best prepare the walls for putting emulsion paint on. In particular the old bits of emulsion paint.
anyway, any thoughts or advice would be most welcome. Thank-you.
