Removing and Draining Radiators to Redecorate Behind Them

Hi,
I am having trouble draining a radiator to paint behind it.

I have turned the thermostat valve to the * position and turned the other side all the way to the right. It is stone cold after the heating came on.

I get water coming out of the air release valve at the top. After about 30 mins it hasn’t stopped.

Have I missed a step? Any help would be appropriated

If the radiator has a thermostatic valve on it, you need the screw on cap that came with the thermostatic valve, you unscrew the valve and then screw the cap on its place and that pushes the pin down and stops the water flow, sometimes putting a small coin in the cap before screwing onto valve is a good idea.
The other way is leave the radiator on and use a paint rad roller with a long arm.
