Stair Carpet Adhesive Protector

Hi Folks.
I'm looking to use this to protect my stair carpet. I wish I had done so before the plasterer skimmed the walls. He used heavy sheets, but they weren't ideal. I'm going to have to get the carpet cleaned when it's all finished :(
I'm now going to paint the large wall areas and will have to use the watered down paint first which, even when I'm careful, will splash and drip.
The stairs have a 180 deg bend in them.
Can anyone comment on how practical it is, laying this film at these bends?
Is there a particular brand that you might recommend?
