Plasterboard under wallpaper - how to make good before painting ?

Hi all, I’m a complete newbie to decorating and DIY - we’ve just bought a 1970’s bungalow and the whole house (including ceilings) is wallpapered. I’ve started stripping one wall and it’s not what I had hoped for. There were a few layers of paint and wallpaper and underneath, the plasterboard has buy patches up and has a little give when pressure is applied, so the seams between boards are visible. I’ve attached a picture of it below. I know re-plastering can be expensive , can we fill and sand the wall? What would be the most cost effective way to make the walls good for painting ? Thanks in advance!

Hi georga333
If you are going to get a decent surface to paint you will probably have to have a skim coat applied with reinforcing tape along the joins.
