Issues with painting and renovating cast iron fireplace

I have been renovating a 1930's cast iron fireplace. I started by stripping all the old layers of paint, and wiping down with clean spirit. I primed the bare metal with Johnstone's red oxide primer. I then painted three thin layers of white Johnstones interior wood and metal quick dry satin (which is water based).

Since I did that a couple of days ago little red/orange spots have bled through on the white. They are definately coming from underneath as the surface is perfectly smooth.

Can anyone advise on what is happening and if there is any way to fix it? I am concerned I did the wrong thing in using both solvent and water based paints.

Hi ebirch,
Apart from compatibility or lack of it between oil and water based paints you may not have left the primer layer long enough for pockets of solvent to dry out.
You could try overcoating with johnsons oil based paint - try a small are with bleed though and see if it works.
