Dulux Woodsheen for Finishing Oak Coffee Table

I'm re-finishing an Oak coffee table and, following purchase of three different shades of the above product, I have now found an acceptable colour match to the legs of the table.
My problem is getting a decent finish! I have had three attempts at getting this stuff on (which has involved completely removing the finish three times) but every attempt has left 'tide marks' in the colour and an uneven finish which is not acceptable. There is very little or no tolerance in the product, to lay off in the normal way and consequently, an overlap always occurs between brush loads, leaving a darker patch. It's driving me mad! This is a water based product but no instruction on how to thin it down or retard it and for the first time ever in my experience, the instructions tell you not to stir or shake the can before applying the product! It does advise not overlaying the brush strokes but how can you avoid that! Any help or advice from someone in the know, would be very welcome and appreciated -
