Hi,

I am trying to find the best solution for sealing and protecting a guitar rosewood fretboard. Ideally something that can be easily painted on. There are no frets (as it's; you guessed it, a fretless bass guitar) so the solution needs to be able to withstand friction and be water tight.

Has any one any suggestions please?? :?:

Rosewood should not be sealed, it is a natural wood and will seep oil over time, and should be prevented from drying out to keep its shape and avoid the neck of your bass warping. If you seal the wood, then you also run the risk of moisture unevenly distributing in the neck, which can then crack in extreme circumstances when you change strings or adjust the truss rod.

To preserve and look after the neck, apply some LemOil (available from music shops) to the neck regularly. I do my fretless rosewood every time I change strings, which for me is about 3 times a year when I'm playing weekly.
