using perspex in shower area

We have put up a shower head over our bath, and the water is damaging the paint on the wall. We are about to redecorate, and rather than just using bathroom paint, we wondered if it would be better to put a panel of perspex there. has anyone else tried this? We're unsure about how to fix it, and wether the moisture would get in between it and still damage the wall?

I have heard of it being done, however you have to ensure that there is no moisture on the wall before you begin, otherwise you will likely get damp patches on the wall.

Normally the perspex would be drilled and screwed to the wall, but you have to make sure you silicon seal every screw hole and along all the joins/edges again to stop the damp getting in.
