Painting new plaster in a shower room

Can anyone help?
I need to paint new plaster in a small shower room.
I have read that to paint on new plaster, it needs to be left for up to four weeks to dry else the paint will seal in moisture and cause damp problems.
The trouble is that it's a frequently used steamy shower-room.
Will I just have to stop using it for a while before painting, or is surface moisture not too much of a problem?
