varnishing/ staining wooden doors

by sallyh » Tue Mar 25, 2008 1:21 pm

Hi

I have bought new rosewood doors for my flat and i have old wooden door surounds that i have stripped.
They are quite different colours and I would like to get them to the same colour and have a satin finish.
THere are various coloured satin cvarnisheds avaliable but will they stain them to the same colour or will i need to stain them to match before varnishing them. Help any ideas? I dont have any offcuts to practice on and dont want to mess it up!
Thanks v much
Sally

Frankly the only way you'll find out is to experiment a bit on an area that won't notice that much when you do the complete job.

Although you say you don't presently have any available offcuts can you source some similarly coloured woods for the initial experiments?

Cheers
