I need to cut an existing 100mm clay drainage pipe in the ground and have been offered a "chain cutter". Does anyone know if this will work on this type of pipe and how easy it is to make a cut with them?

Hi,
I would use a diamond blade for that.

Never used one, but I have used a 9" angle grinder fitted with a stone cutting blade in, to cut clay pipe.

Angle grinder. Let the grinder do the cutting don't apply too much pressure or the pipe will break.

Thanks everyone - went with the 9" grinder. Two clean cuts and a successfully re-routed drain:
