Hi there

Problem is thus -

Old bodge job done in en suite before we moved in. Rubbish ball cock set up leaked for ages - sorted ready for new kit. Now cistern is coming away from wall - apears to be bear brick behind it! This has caused (In one night) the pipe to the pan to come loose and is leaking.

Drained cistern and turned off water supply.

Questions - Will plastering over the hole atthe back be strong wnough to support new plastic cistern skrews?

How does one fit a new cistern - DIY novice manage it?

There's a few things you could do:

It depends on the state of whe brickwork, if there's large holes these need to be filled, if you can - insert spit fixings whilst the plaster/cement is wet then attch cistern when dry.


Or

Fit a pad to the wall, ply or some similar sheet material, if you get a good fixing then you can just use wood screws to secure the cistern.

Cistermns are pretty easy to fit, as long as you get it central with the pan and don't cut the flush pipe too short - it shouldn't be too difficult.
