Freestanding bath waste confusion...

Hi,
Am going to install a freestanding bath and have it pushed against a wall. The hot/cold and waste will both be set into the wall and run horizontally, be tiled over etc, and due to the existing waste exit height into the stack, its impossible to run under the boards.
With this in mind, with a standard twin-skinned acrylic bath (ie a £500 job with wrap-around surround), is it acceptable to cut a hole about 10cm up the outer skin to allow the waste pipe to exit, and the hot/cold to enter?
Can someone please set my mind at ease before I order the bath online!
thanks
