When i flush my cistern the pipes make a loud noise like a foghorn and carries on when i turn the cold tap on untill cistern has refilled.

A few weeks ago I was given a job sheet with the problem listed as ....
''When toilet is flushed, it sounds like the QE2 leaving port''...

The ball valve was changed and the noise was gone ..!

Thanks for the help i replaced the ball valve and its quiet now when i flush. I still have the same problem with the noise though when i turn my cold tap on in bathroom.

Try changing the washer ... if that does'nt cure it. Try reducing the flow at the tap by partially closing the isolation valve.

I cant find the isolation valve for the basin. I unscrewed the screw underneith the cold logo on tap but the tap top still wont come off.

If you have got as far as removing the screw cover. Squirt some WD40 on the screw, it is more than likely partially seized. The head of the tap needs to be wiggled from side to side, or struck lightly from below... strike one side then the other ...
Dont use too much pressure... but they all come off in the end.
I then usually grip the spout of the tap with a large pair of grips with soft jaws, and undo the rest with an adjustable wrench or spanner.

Thanks got the tap top off and tap sleeve but no matter how much i try i cant undo the tap itself even after squirting with wd40

It went together so it must come apart ... If I get a difficult one, I use my 12" pipe grips to hold the spout of the tap. and large adjustable wrench to free it ... or as a last resort a stilson wrench. If I get this far I usually end up replacing the tap anyway.
A bit of heat from a blow torch will help ... but dont overdo it, or you may crack the basin.
