Hi,
I have virtually no DIY experience, apart from re-painting, and need some help with planning how to approach replacing our shower room. All the fittings in the shower room need to be replaced. There are cork tiles on concrete floor, ceramic tiles on walls, toilet, pedestal basin and shower tray/enclosure to be removed.

Already bought, and to be delivered this week are
shower tray/enclosure, pedestal basin, close-coupled toilet, ceramic wall tiles, laminate flooring.

Ideally, in what order should the work be done? Should the laminate flooring go down and tiles go on the wall before the toilet and basin are fitted? If the quadrant shower tray is fitted first, how do you seal the circular gap (of 10mm) between the flooring and the tray?

Advice please.

Hopefully this is'nt the only toilet in the house... it's quite a project for a novice.
Where do you start..?
The room needs to be stripped.
Turn your water off ... cut the supplies to toilet, basin and shower. Cap them off.
Remove basin,pedestal and shower tray etc.
Often easier said than done... remove tiles from walls and make good.
Remove tiles and prepare the floor..(sorry but I would'nt put a laminate floor in a shower room).
If any wiring has to be cut into walls.. ie:- electric shower, light switches...Plan your wiring routes, and do the chasing and fitting now.
Repairs to walls..fit skirting ( or repaint original) followed by plastering etc.
Tile walls and grout...and then sort your floor out.
Then it's a case of refitting the tray and waste ... Fit shower, followed by the enclosure.
Couple the pan to the soil/waste ... screw pan to floor, and fit the cistern.
Fit taps to basin along with waste and overflow fittings.
Position pedestal and fit basin...
That's it ...
Phew !

If you have'nt been put off by now ... remember anyone can eat an elephant... 'Just one mouthfull at a time though'...

Thank you, Alavapint. Luckily, we have 2 other toilets in the house. It's not a mansion, but bringing up 3 boys in the house, we realised 20-odd years ago that it was a good idea to fit in as many toilets as possible.
We are not doing the work ourselves, but 'project managing' tradesmen to do the work for us. Trouble is, they all seem to have different ideas on what job to do when. I think they all want to get their own bit of work done easily, without liaising with anyone else.

All of a sudden it becomes a more complicated job as you are using various tradesmen.. timing is now the problem.

Can't you find someone who is a multi-tradesperson to complete most of the work ?... and if they only do certain things, then surely they will know of someone who does the others !
