Silent flush toilet cisterns exist in UK?

While visiting Canada, we were delighted with their virtually silent flush toilets. Usually button-operated, pressing the button causes the flushing to occur without the noisy sound of all UK toilets that I've come across. This is a blessing during the night for light sleepers in the house.

I think the flush may be much quieter because the water seems to swirl into the pan rather than simply drop into it.

Do similar mechanisms exist in UK and if so what should I ask for (I've already tried asking at some plumbers merchants and the plumber person in B&Q without success)? or do Canada have some kind of monopoly or stranglehold on these marvellous systems?

humbug12,
You're probably referring to a syphonic wc and these are not availble in the uk anymore.

Too bad, I suppose there's no point asking why not?

humbug12,
They were more expensive, complicated and spares were difficult to get.
