Repair leak of waste pipe

My plumer connected a new joiner to my existing toilet waste pipe. He didn't glue them properly so there is a leak. He just used some silicon to seal it from outside and he said that is OK.

I believe it is not and he should cut the joiner out and put a new one and glue it properly. I appreciate your comments on this.

Thanks

You are quite right the joint should be replaced. Pipe joints are designed not to leak, if they are fitted properly, they do not. Toilets move, usually undetected and safely, quite a lot allbeit a very tiny amount, but every movement can stretch the silicone. This is why baths leak so frequently. If a joint is designed to fit without silicone, this is how it should be fitted.

Thanks. The plumer has agreed to cut the pipe and re-seal.
