Bathroom sink overflow causing leak underneath when plug in

Hi all :)

I have an issue with the bathroom sink.

When the tap is running with sink unplugged - no issue.

When the tap is running with the plug in, and therefore the water escapes through the overflow, the very bottom of the sink casting gets wetter and wetter, then forms a rapid drip.

What is causing this to happen please? I'm just wondering if it's time for a new sink or if it's fixable - a blockage somewhere maybe?

You can probably tell I'm not a plumber :)

Thanks.

There may be a casting hole not sealed up or the basin waste may need removing and refitting with a bit of plumbers mate putty on the gasket before tightening.
